Floating Diamonds Poncho
Floating Diamonds Poncho
Ruana: Noun; A poncho with an opening down the front.
I’d never heard the term “Ruana” before, but wanted just such a wrap for chilly evenings. The sides of the wrap are worked first, holding one strand of Merino Lace along with one strand of Alpaca Boucle. The center panels are then worked with one strand of Merino Lace carried along with a strand of Skinny Singles. After grafting the center panels at the shoulders and seaming the sides to the center panel, the fronts and back are finished with a simple garter stitch edging worked with a double strand of the Merino Lace.
I especially love the lightness of the lace side panels and how they float in the breeze. This poncho, or ruana, would also look great in a sophisticated monochromatic combination. The model is shown here wearing the short version.
This sized pattern is available as a digital download in 3 sizes: Short, Medium, and Long.

The lace side panels and slip-stitch center panels are knit separately. The side panels are seamed to the center panels and the shoulders are grafted using the kitchener stitch. Two strands of the lace weight yarn are held together when knitting the trim.
