There are 11 main whole colours and 30 recognised patterns and markings. The average staple length is 3.5 inches. The amount of crimp varies, and is important in providing the 'bounce' required for knitwear.

Cones: Cones are a great value when you need more yardage of a single color. At 500 grams, they have approximately twenty times the yardage of a single skein. Unlike the skeins, finished projects should be soaked in soapy water to remove spinning oil residue.
