Cozy Toes Booties

Description

This month's project was inspired by my sister. She has just had her carpets cleaned, and the technician told her that carpets stay cleaner when people don't wear socks! Who knew? These little booties are designed to wear over socks, and are equally comfortable without as well.

And because it's a busy time of year for many of us, I wanted to design them with as simple a construction as possible. Enter the 'Fleegle' heel, which I love because it's simple, versatile and creates a roomy instep. In this variation, two wedges, or gussets, are first formed by increasing on either side of the instep. A triangular heel is then shaped in Stockinette St using short rows. At the same time, decreases along the sides of the heel reduce the number of sts back to the original cast on number before the foot is completed.
