Select a Sophia Colorway to Flatter Your Features

Select a Sophia Colorway to Flatter Your Features

When choosing yarn for a winter scarf there is more than one decision to make.  The primary consideration for most of us is "How soft is the yarn?".  For this season's Holiday Box we've paired a DK alpaca/wool blend with a brushed alpaca lace for decadent softness you'll feel good in every time you wrap it around your neck. And alpaca is super-warm too!

The next decision is, of course, color.  To be pragmatic, you'll want a colorway which coordinates with your coat!  That's one of the reasons I love the pairing of the watercolor lace with a tonal solid.  Because there are so many colors within the yarn, each colorway will work with many other garment colors.  Not to mention it's fun to watch the colors unfold as you knit it up.

Flatter Your Features

Just as important, though, is to choose a colorway which flatters your features.  Here are the eight Sophia Colorways, and the seasonal palettes they work with best.  Not familiar with seasonal color palettes?  Imagine a color wheel where each palette flows into the next.  Beginning with True Winter (the original winter color palette), the flow is: True Winter -> Bright Winter -> Bright Spring -> True Spring -> Light Spring -> Light Summer -> True Summer -> Soft Summer -> Soft Autumn -> True Autumn -> Dark (Deep) Autumn.  The best free resource I found online (I had my own colors professionally "done" years ago) was at Concept Wardrobe.  I put the urls for the palette guides down below if you're interested in digging deeper.

Color is so subjective, but it does help to understand the interplay of color with our own features... and which colors help us look and feel our best.

Adieu for now,
